Self-initiated concept project — a brief we set ourselves, not a client engagement. The business named here is hypothetical.

2026 Website Development Self-initiated concept

Brief

A hypothetical joinery and furniture workshop already had a design — the exercise was to isolate the engineering half of a project and build it as a standalone case: a static site with zero JavaScript by default, full keyboard operability, and a Lighthouse-clean build on real 4G throttling, not a lab-only score.

Approach

No CMS, no plugin stack, no client-side framework loaded until something actually needs to be interactive. Every component was hand-authored against the same accessibility patterns this site itself uses — a real dogfooding exercise, since the studio's own site runs the identical build discipline.

The project log kept a running budget: JS payload, CSS weight, and font subsetting were tracked per commit rather than checked once at the end, which is the only way a static build stays fast as pages are added.

Outcome (design intent)

Designed to load and become interactive inside the performance budget this studio holds itself to on every real project — verifiable, since this very site is built the same way.

Six were self-initiated. Yours would be the first real one.
